Untitled: Amateur rambling #1

He grasped the half empty, warming can of beer tightly in one hand, and a half-lit cigarette burning idly between the fingers of the other. His taste for alcohol had always been stronger, more desperate than his occasional cravings for nicotine, but the smoke and the booze had always seemed to compliment each other so nicely.

He swayed.
His body, his eye line. It could either have been due to the amount of alcohol he had consumed in the past couple of hours, the mild, British summer heat, or the dated music blaring obnoxiously from his miniature speakers. Notwithstanding the other contributing factors to his incessant lurching, the music, an auto-tuned drone, began to take him. Aimlessly tapping his feet and bringing his tightly shut eyelids to the sun, he sang along to it, slurring his words at every alliterative turn in sudden, drunken outbursts.

He chuckled to himself, revelling in his own private glory, and licked his parched, metallic tasting lips. Mistaking his dehydration for mere thirst, he violently threw back the remains of his beer, some of it spilling lazily out of the corners of his mouth, and onto his chin. Still unsatisfied, he drew back his tongue past his thin lips and into his mouth in an attempt to salvage any excess moisture. There wasn't any.

- At this point, I either got stuck, or had to go somewhere. I'm working on it though!

Oh Hai Der.

Whilst on holiday last month, I tried to keep a diary.
A traditional, pen and pad diary. None of this typing crap.
Needless to say...I failed.

I've never been able to write about myself without trying to create a persona/adopt a voice more interesting/seemingly intelligent than my own.

In short, I'm a fraud.

Reality is not my forte.

That, and I like creating paragraphs unnecessarily...which is pretty hard to do on lined paper.

Anyway, once I realised that rambling on about clouds and my in-flight movie selection was far from interesting, I began to pen a short description of a slightly caricaturish version of a family that I may or may not know.

I'm being deliberately vague because the internet is annoyingly resourceful, which means that said family members may stumble upon this blog one day, and I don't want to offend any of them.

Anyway, the next post features the first few pages of the first bit of writing I've done in a LONG while.
So enjoy. Or don't.
Critique is welcome.
